Signing in!

On a daily basis all of Kopa Wha sign in to let us know who is at school.
The adults point to the letters of their name and then ask them to find the letters in their name on the abc chart. All of the students attempts are recorded and read back to them.
This is great mahi for all our tamariki.

Super signing in

Kopa Wha students sign in daily by practicing writing their names.  They either write their name with a pen or use an ABC chart to assist them. The childs name is firstly modelled  by a Learning Assistant or teacher.  The student is then given the opportunity to point to the letters inside their name.  The letters are recorded on our sign in sheet and a lot of celebration occurs with all the letters they attempt to point to.

Great mahi Kopa Wha!

Wonderful writers!

In Week 4 we were looking at the letter Ww for writing.

As you already know our wonderful Speech Language Therapist is a fantastic author/writer  who has published two books.  The children enjoyed listening to Helen’s books.  You can hear these stories in the slide below.  I am sure the children would love to listen to these stories again with you at home.

The children also got to create their own poem by choosing different pictures to be inserted into our rhyme.  They also completed their own puzzle with ‘et’ rhyming words.

What a lot of wonderful mahi you completed Ruma Wha!    Click here to listen to the Google Slide poems below.

Yoga time!

This week we have been working on Yy words such as yoga, yoghurt and yes!

We have been practising a range of different yoga poses over the week.  We even made a variety of shape poses which linked in beautifully with our current geometry unit.

We also made some yummy yoghurt after sequencing this activity digitally on my laptop.  We then reinforced this activity through cutting and pasting the hardcopy into our writing books.

What wonderful helpers we have in Ruma Wha!

Dd is for dinosaur

For the last two weeks we have been focusing on the Letter Dd and how to write it ensuring we have the correct directional movement.  The iPad is a fun way for all the tamariki to practice this skill.

We have been looking at a variety of words that begin with the letter Dd as well as completing fun crafts about dinosaurs which is a favourite in Ruma Wha currently.  The children enjoyed creating playdough dinosaurs and then role playing with a variety of large and small dinosaurs.

A few video clips have been included for you to enjoy at the bottom of this post.  Please feel free to reply to this post, we would love to hear from you.
