Splashing Fun!

Every day Kopa Wha goes swimming in the Marfell Community School pool.  When we are in the pool we practice windmill arms, kicking, blowing bubbles, holding our breath, floating and gliding. Look how clever we all are!

Fabulous Fulton Swim School

Whare Manaaki is so very fortunate to begin attending Fulton Swim School again every Wednesday morning.

Swimming has many benefits for our tamariki from improving motor skills to creating a variety of opportunities for our students to interact socially, reduce anxiety as well as provide sensory regulation.

Welcome back!

Welcome to 2025!

I am super excited to be back in Ruma Wha this year.  I am so fortunate to be working alongside a very experienced and lovely colleague, Shelley Cook.  Shelley is our new Lead Teacher for the Whare Manaaki.  She is also the teacher in Ruma Rima. Please feel free to come in and say hello to both Shelley and I anytime.

This week all tamariki have been re establishing routines and settling back into school life.  The highlight of each day has definitely been swimming.  It has been delightful to watch and hear the squeals of delight during our swimming time.  It has also been pleasing to see how confident our students are becoming in the water.  This is such an important part of the curriculum for all our tamariki in our kura.  I am looking forward to extending our children’s abilities so that ultimately, they are safe in any body of water.

Please mark in your calendar the 12th February as the whole school (including Whare Manaaki) are attending the Aquatic Centre from 9.30 am.  We would love for you to join us and partake in the fun with your tamariki in the pools.  See you there!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school everyone!  It has been so lovely reconnecting with your tamariki and yourselves in the last couple of weeks.

We have been fortunate enough to utilise the swimming pool daily.  It has been fantastic to see all the children continuing to build on their water safety skills and we look forward to this continuing.  The delight on the children’s faces and the laughter that goes alongside this is a daily highlight for me.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we had a swim instructor who assisted with classroom and poolside sessions.  The children investigated objects that would float and sink in the classroom on the first day.  They then got to experiment with the same objects in the pool today.  Oh, what fun!

I look forward to hearing your comments on the blog posts and seeing you all in person on a daily basis.
