Marvellous Math!

Ruma Wha have been completing some Marvellous Math activities this week.

We incorporated sensory and fine motor activities into our Math sessions and look what we created!

Everyone had a lot of fun and the classroom was a hive of activity.

Ka pai everyone!

Ll is for love and leaves

Welcome to Term 2.  I hope everyone had a lovely holiday with their beautiful tamariki.

This week we have been focusing on the letter Ll for love and leaves.

The children have been practicing writing the letter Ll on whiteboards, chalkboards and leaves. We completed a lovely love heart with crunched up leaves as well as leaf rubbings.  When we had a break in the weather we went on a leaf hunt and had lots of fun throwing leaves up into the air and watching them blow in the wind.

We look forward to the term ahead and please feel free to send Kopa Wha comments on the blog.

Fine motor fun!

Fine motor activities are a huge part of our day to day programme in Ruma Wha.  The benefits of working on a variety of fine motor activities is extensive from strengthening their muscles in their hands and fingers to the development of hand-eye co ordination.

Our wonderful Occupational Therapist, Paula Matheson visits Whare Manaaki on a weekly basis to work alongside our tamariki and kaiako (teachers).  We hope you enjoy the montage of photos showing a variety of fine motor activities.

If you would like to find out more about fine motor skills please look at the Specialist Site below.  It has some tips and tricks and different ideas for you try at home with your tamariki.

Amazing iMovie from Room 4

We are so fortunate to have Fiona Waugh rejoin us in Ruma Wha this year.

On a weekly basis Fiona works on various applications and skills for our students to practise.

This year we have been looking more closely at how to take a video and photos to include them into an iMovie.  We have incorporated our Letter of the Week into this week’s iMovie.  We looked around the classroom to see what words began with the Letter Nn.

We hope you enjoy our iMovie.  All of the photos and videos were taken by our tamariki.

Thank you so much, Fiona, for your support with our iMoi.  I look forward to next Wednesday.

Hip, Hip, Hooray for Harold!

This week Marfell Community School has been fortunate enough to have the Life Education Bus on site.

Ruma Wha had two visits to the Mobile Bus. We integrated the Life Education sessions into our own program to reinforce what the students like or dislike.  They had the opportunity to sort foods into these two groups as well as move themselves to a different part of the bus to show their likes and dislikes.

The favourite part of both sessions was seeing Harold the Giraffe on the big screen as well as Harold coming out from behind the curtain. I hope you enjoy looking at all the photos of our learning this week.

I like …….

This week Ruma Wha has been looking at a variety of foods that begin with the Letter of the Week, which is Pp.  All the tamariki chose a fruit or vegetable which begins with the letter Pp that they liked to eat.

Can you guess which was the favourite for our tamariki?

Please let us know what other food you like to eat that begins with the Letter Pp!

Dd is for Dad

Last week Ruma Wha worked on the Letter Dd.  We were reading, talking, singing and completing crafts about the Letter Dd.  Three important names beginning with the Letter D are Diego, Dash and Dad.

Room 4 completed some beautiful masterpieces utilising the letters D-a-d.

Please feel free to comment on our blog and sit down together with your child to go through our Google Slide for the week.

Wonderful Week Two

Last week Ruma Wha was working on the Letter Aa for different body parts such as your arm and ankle.  We incorporated numeracy into our Inquiry/Alphabet craft work as well as practicing writing their own name.

We look forward to responding to your comments left on our blog.

Enjoy the montage of photos of your tamariki, as well as our Google Slides.

Welcome back!

Welcome to 2025!

I am super excited to be back in Ruma Wha this year.  I am so fortunate to be working alongside a very experienced and lovely colleague, Shelley Cook.  Shelley is our new Lead Teacher for the Whare Manaaki.  She is also the teacher in Ruma Rima. Please feel free to come in and say hello to both Shelley and I anytime.

This week all tamariki have been re establishing routines and settling back into school life.  The highlight of each day has definitely been swimming.  It has been delightful to watch and hear the squeals of delight during our swimming time.  It has also been pleasing to see how confident our students are becoming in the water.  This is such an important part of the curriculum for all our tamariki in our kura.  I am looking forward to extending our children’s abilities so that ultimately, they are safe in any body of water.

Please mark in your calendar the 12th February as the whole school (including Whare Manaaki) are attending the Aquatic Centre from 9.30 am.  We would love for you to join us and partake in the fun with your tamariki in the pools.  See you there!

iMovie of our walk

Over the past few weeks, Ruma Wha has been collaborating with Fiona to create iMovies, enabling us to share them instantly with all our tamariki in the class and with their whanau.

The children are still working on the skill of holding the iPad in one hand and taking a photo with the other.  We will continue to work on this for the rest of the year.  It would be wonderful if you could continue to practice this skill over the school holidays.  We would love to see your holiday photos next year when your tamariki return to school and incorporate these photos into a Google Slide or iMovie.

We hope you enjoy our mini iMovie.
