Remarkable RDA Riders

Each week several tamariki from Ruma Wha and Ruma Rima are fortunate enough to attend Riding for the Disabled.

This is a fabulous time for our tamariki to strengthen a variety of muscles in their bodies as well as improve their concentration and attention span.  This also includes hand and eye co-ordination which is necessary for skills such as writing.  The benefits gained from RDA are truly amazing and the children all love their time on the horse as you can see from the photos and videos below.

Check out a couple of short video clips as well.

Whanau Picnic

What a wonderful afternoon we had at the Whanau Picnic on Wednesday afternoon.

The sun was shining, families were eating kai and playing games together.  The afternoon concluded with parents versus teachers and students’ relay running race.  Well done parents, you were super fast!

Here are a few moments we were able to capture to share with you.

Harold the Giraffe

This week we have had the Life Education Bus on site.

Megan the Teacher adapted the curriculum beautifully for our tamariki so they could investigate different objects that they liked as well as play with a variety of puppets.

The children were extremely excited to see Harold the Giraffe again at the end of the session as you can see from the photos below.

D is for Dad

This term for our Inquiry we are looking at who we are, our whanau, and our wider community.

Our reader this week called ‘Dad’ ties in beautifully with our Inquiry as well as our letter of the week which is the Letter Dd.

We all had fun painting over the letters ‘d-a-d’ with our hands.  What great artists Ruma Wha are!

We hope you enjoy our masterpieces.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school everyone!  It has been so lovely reconnecting with your tamariki and yourselves in the last couple of weeks.

We have been fortunate enough to utilise the swimming pool daily.  It has been fantastic to see all the children continuing to build on their water safety skills and we look forward to this continuing.  The delight on the children’s faces and the laughter that goes alongside this is a daily highlight for me.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, we had a swim instructor who assisted with classroom and poolside sessions.  The children investigated objects that would float and sink in the classroom on the first day.  They then got to experiment with the same objects in the pool today.  Oh, what fun!

I look forward to hearing your comments on the blog posts and seeing you all in person on a daily basis.
